Club History
The Rotary Club of Yonkers-East Yonkers was chartered in 1920. In its current organization, it is the outcome of the merger of the Rotary Clubs of Yonkers and East Yonkers, which was completed in June 2013. We are Club No. 5044, in Rotary District 7230, which comprises the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island, as well as Westchester Count and the island of Bermuda. Since its founding, our Club has upheld the ideals and goals of the Rotary movement of Service Above Self in our local, national, and international spheres.
We are rooted in the community and will continue to support a wide range of activities in support of our community. Our literacy project assists Yonkers elementary school students, our high school scholarships assist college-bound seniors. We have raised funds to rebuild schools damaged by floods in Bangladesh and helped build safe cookstoves in a Ugandan village. Our annual community breakfast event raises funds for local service organizations. In 2017-2018, the Club raised nearly $60,000 for the Polio Plus Fund.
We are very active at the District Level, having provided 11 District Governors, most recently Rev. Dr. J. Loren Russell for the 2023-2024 Rotary year. Other Past District Governors from our Club include Mahbub Ahmad (2019-2020), Matts Ingemanson (2013-2014), and Greg Arcaro (2012-2013).
The Club has been awarded the Rotary Presidential Citation several years in a row, and received the Rotary Foundation Banner for "Every Rotarian Every Year" for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, with every member of the Club contributing to the Rotary Foundation during those year.
The Club meets regularly and has guest speakers at its meetings. To join one of our meetings, please email info@yonkersrotary.org with information about yourself, your Rotary information, and where you will be joining from.
