Guests Amir Asadi, a Member of the Bronx RC, is the current District Membership Chair.  He informed us that Shaw is the Area Coordinator for Membership for 5 Clubs within the District.  Amir asked that our Club make a commitment of 3 new Members in RY 2017-2018.  Lisa Summa-Guarino attended her second Meeting with us and is very interested in joining our Club. She began working in television – on a team that started up the Food Network and also on NBC.  She later changed to banking and is currently Branch Manager at The Westchester Bank.  David Hockhauser is retired and has been very active over the years in volunteer work with the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Paul Harris Fellow – Alix presented Peggy with her Paul Harris pin and Certificate.

Board Meeting Recap – Alix indicated that a By Law Committee (Mahbub, Bina, and Fr. Philippe) has been established.  They will review the By Laws on a sectional basis and report any recommendations to the Board for approval and then to the Membership.  The Board is looking at the prospect of “Adopting a School” – the Hostos Micro Society School.  (The School was designed to reflect the concept of the community.  Students are involved in experiential learning by operating a bank, food store, government, and a printing center – all within the school premises.)  A Membership Survey draft was given to Board Members, and it will subsequently be sent to all Members for comments. Projects – sending restored computers to Guatemala, which Greg has been working on with Port Chester RC; partnering with Briarcliff Manor RC on their project of kidney dialysis machines to Calcutta, India.  (India has a need for 40,000 machines and currently has 4,000.)  The project would train people to use the machines.

By Law Committee – Once changes have been suggested by the Committee and approved by the Board, they will be sent to Members for a 2/3 approval of them.

Fire Fund – On Saturday, 15 July, additional funds were provided to the uninsured victims of the 15 March fire at 1 Hawley Terrace.  We are most appreciative of the $450 donation from a bake sale held by the Bermuda Interact Club.

Buddy Up and Read Program –This program will be held again this year at Riverfront Library from 10:00 until 12:00 noon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from July 11 through August 16.  As a volunteer, you will be reading with the children.  You are asked to be there at 9:30 a.m. the first day you volunteer for a brief orientation meeting.  Please let Peggy know as soon as possible which dates you will attend so that she can inform the appropriate people there.

National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 1 from 5:00 till 9:00 p.m.  The 4th Police Precinct’s event will be held at JFK Marina, and the 1st Police Precinct’s event will be at Andrus Field at the same time.  Alix and Peggy will be at JFK Marina; Mahbub will make our Club’s arrangements for Andrus Field.  Please advise Peggy if you will be able to assist at either location.
